Tolls to be extended to trucks from 3.5 t

After many years of tough negotiations, the EU transport ministers finally came to an agreement on the Eurovignette directive yesterday, Tuesday, 08 December 2020. The directive is to enter into effect in 2023.

The truck tolls will take more account of CO2 emissions in future. For heavy diesel trucks, the charges will be raised by around 50%. The tolls will also be extended to smaller trucks from 3.5 t. Exemptions will be granted for lighter vehicles weighing between 3.5 and 7.5 t and used by small craft companies or workshops.

No road tolls will be levied for Climate friendly trucks, i.e. vehicles that are powered by hydrogen or have a hybrid drive. (ben)
