To haul 2.3 million t of ore a year

The railway specialist Railcare has signed a ten-year contract worth SEK 740 million (about EUR 72 million) with the mining company Kaunis Iron. The contract, which supersedes a deal from 2018, will take effect on 16 November 2021 and run to 2031.

The wagons to be used are owned by Kaunis Iron, and the locomotives and shunting engines will be provided by Railcare T, as was the case in the previous contract.

Railcare T is in charge of planning train deployment, shunting resources for transport from lorries to the railways in the terminal in Pitkäjärvi (Sweden), to Narvik harbour (Norway) and in between. Railcare will run two journeys a day, seven days a week, transporting around 2.3 million t of iron ore every year.
