TIP trials solar-powered trailer
The twelve-month trial in the UK involves a zero-emission, battery, and solar-powered transport refrigeration unit (TRU) fitted to one of TIP Group’s reefer trailers. The test vehicle "Endurance " is designed and manufactured by Sunswap and is equipped with solar panels on the trailer’s roof, a modular battery, and a highly energy-efficient system.
The TRU is ‘trailer agnostic’, but it is adapted to a Chereau manufactured reefer, which will operate as part of the fleet of a TIP customer on UK roads. The aim of this test is to find out whether the zero emission TRU functions at least as effectively as if powered by diesel, without detriment to the transport operation it is assigned to.
