Timber exports shifted from road to rail
A new rail shuttle has just been launched to transport Swedish timber products from Malungsfors in Dalarna via the Port of Gothenburg (both in Sweden) to Asia. The driving force behind the newly established rail shuttle is the Fiskarheden sawmill in cooperation with forwarder Träfraktkontoret.
The first train carried 32 40 ft containers from the Japanese shipping company ONE and arrived yesterday (30 August 2021) at the Port of Gothenburg.
Previously, timber products were transported by road via the Swedish Port of Gävle. The new rail-ship-service reduces the carbon footprint of each container from 406 to 207 kg of carbon dioxide per teu compare to truck-ship-transport. (ben)
