Throughput growing in Antwerp-Bruges
The port of Antwerp-Bruges recorded 2.3% growth in throughput in 2024, bringing the total to 278 million t, driven primarily by an 8.9% increase in container traffic.
Despite the ongoing economic challenges, including high energy costs and geopolitical tension, the port demonstrated resilience, achieving a 0.7% market share growth in the Hamburg–Le Havre range.
Infrastructure developments that enhanced its ability to compete include a 16 m draught and expanded facilities, while sustainability initiatives included methanol bunkering, electric tugs and renewable energy projects.
Collaboration with stakeholders underpinned these achievements, positioning the port as a vital hub for international trade and energy transition in 2025. (pb)
