Three railways to boost Middle Corridor
The railways in Kazakhstan, Georgia and Azerbaijan have agreed to set up a joint venture on a parity basis, aiming to develop transport services on the Trans-Caspian International Transport (TCIT) route.
The JV will provide services on a one-stop-shop principle, guarantee delivery times, and pursue a coordinated policy for the development of East-West-transport services by rail/truck and ship along the Middle corridor of the New Silk Road.
This route has become increasingly important since the beginning of the war in Ukraine. It runs through Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey. Transit time is ten to 15 days, depending on the destination. (ben)
