Three new units nearby
The Naples-headquartered Grimaldi Group opens the new year 2021 with an enhancement of its fleet. The delivery of the “Eco Barcelona” took place in early January, while two more vessels with different specifications, the “Grande Texas” and the “Eco Livorno”, will join Grimaldi’s fleet by the end of the month.
The two Eco units are intended for the transport of rolling freight in the Mediterranean, whereas the “Grande Texas2 is the sixth of a series of seven PCTC (pure car & truck carrier) vessels ordered from the Chinese shipyard Yangfan located in Zhoushan.
The “Eco Barcelona”, which flies the Italian flag, is the second of the twelve hybrid units of the new Grimaldi Green 5th Generation (GG5G) class ordered from the Chinese shipyard Jinling in Nanjing. These GG5G ships are not only the hitherto largest ro-ro units short sea shipping sailing, but also the most eco-friendly ones. (cd)
