Third shunting track at the Schwedenkai
An additional track will be built at the rail terminal at Kiel’s Schwedenkai, raising the number of entrance tracks to three. This will enhance the port’s line-up capacities for wagons in order to cut back the amount of train movements to and from the Kiel-Meimersdorf shunting station and thus reduce sound pollution.
A 300 m long railway track will be laid on the waterside in parallel to the two existing lines running along the Bahnhofskai. South of the bridge “Hörnbrügge” and the pedestrian crossing it will merge into the terminal entrance track.
In total, EUR 1.25 million will be invested in the track, the switches and the compensatory measures. The upgrade is expected to be completed by spring 2020. (ben)
