Third Chicago airport welcomes UPS
Earlier this week, global transportation and logistics services provider UPS began "next day air service" operations at Gary / Chicago International Airport (GCIA). The start of daily flights fulfils its commitment to begin cargo operations to the region's third official airport (Iata: GYY) in advance of the peak holiday shopping season.
he agreement, which includes 1,300 sqm of office space in the airport’s PAX terminal, a 13,900 sqm ramp (enough for two A300) and 540 sqm of hangar space is the latest private sector investment to bolster the airport’s operations capability.
GCIA board authority chairman Timothy Fesko: "We continue to fill our role as a critical component in the Chicago regional air system, while also serving as a key economic engine for the Northwest Indiana region." (ah)
