The glorious seven for hydrogen
Hydrogen is gaining more and more importance as an alternative means of propulsion. Seven Belgian partner companies will cooperate to this end in future.
The sea ports of Antwerp and Zeebrugge, Deme, a marine engineering company, the energy supplier Engie, the shipping company Exmar, the gas transmission system operator Fluxys and the development platform Waterstoff Net have joined forces to make a joint analysis that shall provide the basis for implementing specific projects in the production, transport and storage of hydrogen and help Belgium reduce the country’s CO2 emissions by 80% from the level measured in 2005. This goal is to be reached by 2050.
The outcome of the analysis will be a roadmap that indicates the best way to transport hydrogen for the various applications in the energy and chemical sector. Since Belgium does not have sufficient quantities of wind and solar energy at its disposal, a part of the required renewable fuel must be imported. (fd)
