The countdown for OPS in Barcelona is on
The port of Barcelona’s first OPS for container vessels has arrived at the Best terminal, marking the start of the countdown to connect the first ships. The OPS substation, assembled by Denmark's Powercon company, will allow up to two container ships to be connected simultaneously.
With this project, part of the Nexigen initiative, the port of Barcelona seeks to halve CO2 emissions from port operations by 2030 and become carbon-neutral 2050. The OPS connection will be completed over four months, with the aim of starting to supply ships with clean energy certified as 100% renewable by July this year.
The port of Barcelona is holding meetings with shipping companies to plan the arrival and processing of ships equipped with OPS connections. The project is co-financed by the sustainable and digital transport support programme. (pb)
