The Alliance also has Australia in its sights
Competition among shipping lines around Australia is in full swing. Hapag-Lloyd, as part of The Alliance, has announced the start of two new routes from Southeast Asia to Australia. The new services SEA and S2A offering weekly direct sailings between Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Australia along the existing Southeast Asia Australia Loop 1 (SAL) will be launched in the second half of October 2019.
“Connecting via Singapore to our global mainline network, we will be able to offer an increased sailing frequency to and from Australian ports,” commented Alice Yin Chung Tham, HL's senior director trade management Intra Asia. Main features of the new links are three weekly connections between Singapore and Australia, as well as access to four weekly services between northern Europe and Singapore and three weekly services between the Mediterranean and Singapore.
The SEA and S2A will be run in cooperation between Hapag-Lloyd, ANL, Maersk and ONE. Services will be operated with 7 x 8,500 teu vessels and 6 x 5,700 teu vessels, respectively. Hapag-Lloyd will be operating one vessel on each service. (cd)
