Fashion logistics is a growing industry, and Militzer & Münch is benefiting from the booming sector in North Africa. It has increased its volumes to and from Germany.
Overland transport services between Germany and the Maghreb states Tunisia and Morocco are gaining ever more in importance for Militzer & Münch. Compared to the same period of the previous year, the transport firm increased its shipment volume in this trade by almost 30% in H1 / 2019. Turnover in the field increased by 40%. The growth was driven by textile logistics activities, as well as by the electronics, automotive and pharmaceutical industries.
Between Eichenzell and Tangier
Militzer & Münch managing director Thomas Winter explains the success of the Maghreb – Germany route with Morocco’s recent economic growth and the rather good trade relations between the countries, with transit through France not a problem either.
“Exports to Morocco and Tunisia, as well as imports from the latter, have increased particularly strongly in recent months,” according to Winter. The company’s branch in Eichenzell, in the state of Hessen, is the key hub for transport services between Germany and North Africa. Militzer & Münch employees handle all operational aspects of the connections in Eichenzell.
Algeria the next destination
“In addition, we prepare the concomitant export documents for our customers there; we organise the import customs clearance procedures through our branch in Bad Reichenhall,” Winter adds. The company, which is headquartered in Switzerland, mainly focuses on road transport, but also offers air and sea freight solutions. Militzer & Münch has already had a strong presence in the Maghreb states for several years now, running its own subsidiaries there. The local branch offices naturally collaborate closely with teams in Germany. In Tangier, the logistics company manages extensive storage space, as well as its own customs terminal. This is a decisive operational advantage, according to Winter. “We can guarantee rapid processing, thanks also to these storage capacities. Our customers really appreciate this.”
Overland transport between Germany and North Africa requires flexibility and communication, which is why the teams from the north and the south are always in close contact. According to Militzer & Münch’s plans the current growth phase is expected to continue for a while longer. The corporate focus is on expanding relations with Algeria, thus completing M & M’s comprehensive coverage of the Maghreb region.
