Testing refrigerated wagons in Norway
Swedish railfreight company Green Cargo and the German transport company DB Schenker are testing new refrigerated wagons with Schenker’s North Rail Express (NRE) product in Norway. The innovative freight wagons, which were developed by Swiss manufacturer Wascosa, are powered with electricity via the locomotive.
The new technology enables shippers to shift temperature sensitive goods from road to rail. With this solution, around 13,000 trucks may be transferred to the railways per year, saving about 59,000 t of CO2, Green Cargo said.
The test train will run with two electric wagons between Oslo and Narvik (both in Norway) until April 2021. If the tests go well, more wagons will be added during the trial. (ben)
