Testing parcel deliveries by rail
GLS Germany is currently testing parcel deliveries by rail. In a pilot project running until the end of January 2023, up to 1,000 parcels a day will be sent by train from Nuremberg to Hanover. Work is already underway to expand this trial to additional routes in Germany, the parcel service provider says.
Shifting parcel volumes to rail could even become GLS's long-term policy in the future - in addition to the commissioning of parcel stations and the widespread use of e-vehicles and vehicles with alternative propulsion systems. The parcel service provider aims to operate completely emission-free by 2045. (ben)
