Test with driverless transport vehicles
Dachser is conducting long-term tests to find out the extent to which mixed operations in warehouses can take place with driverless and manually-operated vehicles. To this end one vehicle is being tested in Langenau and one at the firm’s Vaihingen site in Germany.
By using the driverless transport vehicles, employees can be relieved of simple as well as strenuous physical tasks, and thus devote more of their time and energies to demanding tasks. Driverless transport vehicles can also operate 24 hours a day, Dachser said.
Currently, such units take on tasks such as transporting goods from the inbound to the transfer zone in a high-bay warehouse. They pick up and set down pallets independently in this context. (ben)
