Test train run between Barcelona and Zaragoza
Bunge, which specialises in the transport of agri-food, has started tests to transport soybean flour by rail in Spain. The first train left Bunge's facilities in the Port of Barcelona bound for the dry port of Zuera (Zaragoza) last Monday, 15 June 2020. It is a convoy of 17 wagons carrying 850 t of soy flour.
When launched, this new railway service could help remove dozens of trucks from the road network every day and increase the logistical efficiency of the agri-food supply chains that pass through the Catalan port area. Soy flour from Barcelona is considered to be of high quality.
The shipment of large volumes of soybean meal from the Port of Barcelona to the Aragon province by rail would contribute to the economic, safe and stable supply of farms, the port authority said. (ben)
