Test run with 838 m long train
TX Logistik (TXL) has run a train with a length of 838 m in Sweden. The rail logistics company operated the fully loaded train on the 500 km route between Malmö and Frövi. The train was driven by a four-axle locomotive and transported foodstuffs from the Swedish retail chain Coop. So far, only trains with a maximum length of 630 m are permitted on most routes in the Swedish rail network.
The test train carried 48 semitrailers and travelled at speeds of up to 120 km per hour, which was faster than trains in comparable test runs in other countries. An expansion to 838 m would significantly increase transport capacities and also provide an important impulse for climate-smart rail transport, TXL said. (ben)
