Terminals for Switzerland’s domestic goods carriage
The Swiss state-owned railfreight operator SBB Cargo has reached a milestone for the expansion of its combined transport (CT) terminal in Dietikon, near Zurich, and submitted its planning approval dossier to the Swiss national transport office. A public consultation is now underway.
SBB Cargo has already handled combined transport in Dietikon for years. However, the capacity limit of 30,000 containers per year has been reached. The planned expansion will double capacities.
The construction of the extension is scheduled to start in mid-2024. In addition to the Dietikon terminal, the company is also planning further major investments in Swiss inland railfreight transport in the coming years, including five CT terminals on the east–west axis. (ben)
