Technology upgrade for Brazil's trains
Rumo, Brazil's largest rail-based logistics operator, will deploy mobile satellite connectivity provided by Globalsat to increase the speed of its deliveries and improve health and safety during its operations. The two companies recently signed a multi-year contract to this effect. G
lobalsat will provide a solution leveraging satellite connectivity from Inmarsat and Cobham connectivity terminals. This solution will connect Rumo's cargo trains, raising the speed with which goods can be transported across the country and enhancing the safety of trains, vehicles and drivers.
The first stage of the project will begin in early 2020 by equipping 300 of Rumo's cargo trains with the required technology. This will enable accurate real-time tracking of each train as well as reliable voice and data communication between drivers, maintenance crews and regional control centres. As many as 1,600 locomotives are to be upgraded with this new technology. (ben)
