Tata begins hydrogen trials

Tata Motors has launched India’s first hydrogen truck trials, marking a step in decarbonising heavy goods transport under the national green-hydrogen mission.

The 24-month trial includes 16 hydrogen-powered trucks, using both hydrogen internal combustion (H2-ICE) and fuel cell electric vehicle (H2-FCEV) technologies. The trucks will operate along major freight corridors linking Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, Surat and Jamshedpur.

The initiative aims to assess the commercial viability of hydrogen-powered long-haul vehicles and support infrastructure development. Tata Motors’ H2-ICE and H2-FCEV vehicles offer ranges of 300–500 km and feature driver-assistance systems. (js)
