Tanzania to boost cargo transports by rail
The African state has launched its rail cold chain programme. It is designed to facilitate the transport of temperature-sensitive goods, such as perishable food items, while improving the efficiency and sustainability of the country’s logistics network.
The project is part of Tanzania’s broader strategy to increase cargo transport by rail along the “Central Corridor” in East and Central Africa connecting the maritime port in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
The launch comes at a time when Tanzania is actively investing in its transport infrastructure, according to the Central Corridor Transit Transport Facilitation Agency which was established by Burundi, Congo (DRC), Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda in September 2006. (ben)
