Tangier port: bigger and greener
APM Terminals Med Port Tangier in Morocco has recently completed phase 2 of its expansion, increasing its capacity by over one million teu.
The upgrade adds seven new container stacks, a 400 m berth and features 14 automated gantry cranes and eleven hybrid shuttle carriers from Kalmar, along with four ship-to-shore cranes capable of handling large container vessels.
The facility now includes electric equipment and an auto-mooring system, aimed at enhancing efficiency and reducing emissions. Further additions are planned, with phase 3 expected to be operational by 2025, adding another one million teu capacity. (pb)
