Switzerland’s first digital goods train
Processes in the railfreight industry are still largely manual. But that is about to change. A digital goods train has been running in Switzerland for a short time.
The pilot train "DAC+" was launched by SBB Cargo, the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, the companies PJM, plc-tec and Voith and is supported by the Federal Office of Transport (FOT).
The aim is to drive forward automation and digitalisation in railfreight and thus, among other things, single-person operation, SBB Cargo says.
"DAC+" is equipped with an automatic coupling including a digital data line. During the trial phase - which will last until the end of 2023 - the automated train will test various automated functions on its travels through Switzerland. (ben)
