Switzerland to support CT terminal in Italy
Switzerland aims to further strengthen the railways as an alternative for transporting goods through the Alps. The Federal Office of Transport (FOT) is therefore participating in the construction of a large transhipment terminal east of Milan.
The terminal will be built on the site of the former Milano Smistamento marshalling yard. It will have two sets of six tracks, a total of six gantry cranes and a length of around 750 m.
The facility will be able to transfer about 150,000 truck consignments to the railway each year. The operator is Teralp, in which the Swiss logistics company Hupac holds a stake. (ben)
