Switzerland adopts European drone regulations
As from 1 January 2023, drone pilots in Switzerland will be subject to new regulations. The joint committee of the bilateral agreement between Switzerland and the European Union on air transport decided on 24 November 2022 that Switzerland will adopt the EU’s drone regulations as well as other EU legislation.
Depending on the operating risk, a distinction is now made between the three categories: "open", which requires remote pilots to undergo training with a final examination, "special" and "subject to approval".
In addition, new maximum flight altitudes, weight limits as well as area restrictions, regulations in the areas of environmental protection, and protection of privacy and safety will apply. Switzerland will adopt over the European regulation on "U-Space". (ah)
