Swiss railfreight company remains in the black
SBB Cargo achieved a result of CHF 3.0 million in 2019, and - thanks to exceptional singular effects – remains in the black. SBB Cargo International posted a result of CHF 5.5 million, lower than expected, which was particularly due to weaker demand in the steel and chemical industries and the overall economic slowdown.
Yesterday's (10.03.2020) balance-sheet media conference highlighted the crucial issues for SBB Cargo's future: the new conditions for railfreight in Switzerland, the revision of track prices planned for 2021 and the continuation of operational payments in transalpine traffic until 2026.
SBB Cargo intends to continue its efforts to shift goods traffic from the roads to the railways and to reduce CO2 emissions by deploying hybrid locomotives. (ben)
