Swiss Post to increase investment in logistics
Fewer parcels, but more earnings, logistics and investments: Swiss Post will use its H1/2022 profit of CHF 259 million, moderately higher than H1/2021, to further transform the group. Operating profit was up CHF 55 million year-on-year, while revenue was CHF 3.46 billion, up CHF 104 million year-on-year.
The sharp rise in prices for energy, fuel and raw materials, and the sharp increase in inflation however resulted in significantly higher costs for Swiss Post - especially in logistics.
The logistics services unit made the largest contribution to the group result in H1/2022, even though parcel volumes declined to 95.6 million parcels in that period (-5.1%). Current parcel volumes are nevertheless 41% higher than in H1/2018.
Swiss Post is also pushing ahead with the planned expansion of its logistics services by acquiring logistics companies in neighbouring countries and is reducing its dependence on global supply chains. (sh)
