Swiss Post suffering
2018 was full of woes for Swiss Post. The service provider was forced to repay more than CHF 200 million to the confederation and cantons for unlawfully subsidised public bus services.
In addition, the Postfinance (bank) ebit shrank by more than 50%. The 2018 group revenue sank to CHF 7.7 billion (2017: CHF 8.06 billion) and group profit amounted to a "mere" CHF 405 million (2017: CHF 527 million).
The best result was registered in the Postlogistics division. Its ebit grew by CHF 26 million to CHF 145 million on sales of CHF 1.6 billion. Swiss Post transported 138 million parcels in 2018, 6.7% more than in 2017. Higher parcel volumes and company acquisitions were responsible for the favourable results in the Postlogistics division.
