Swiss Post sets parcel record
Swiss Post posted new record figures in 2018 because increasing numbers of customers order online. The increase in parcel volumes (+6.7%) and small imported shipments weighing up to 2 kg (+14%) grew markedly.
Switzerland’s mail service provider handled 138 million consignments in 2018, 25% or around 28 million more parcels compared to 2013. This volume upsurge is causing new logistics challenges.
Swiss Post has recognized this fact and is investing in new sorting machines and parcel centres. The company expects that the parcel volume and the number of small imported consignments will continue to increase. The amount of small shipments imported from Asia is expected to rise to as many as 38 million by 2020. (mw)
