Swiss Post opens new parcel hub
Swiss Post has inaugurated the second of four new regional parcel centres in Ostermundigen (Canton Berne). Priority parcels from Berne and the Bernese Oberland are now sorted directly in Ostermundigen, the birthplace of Ursula Andress, the first Bond girl. In the light of the current boom in in the parcel segment, the new hub relieves the pressure on the existing centre in Härkingen (canton Solothurn).
"By investing around CHF 8 million in the new sorting facility we take an important step towards making parcel handling fit for the future," says Dieter Bambauer, head of postlogistics. "With direct links to the transport network and by processing the parcels in our region we can substantially improve our logistics processes," he explains.
With the parcel hub in Ostermundingen and its maximum sorting capacity of 5,000 parcels per hour, Swiss Post makes a considerable addition to its total sorting capacity. (mw)
