Swiss carrier to operate rail services in Belgium
BLS Cargo has signed an agreement that gives the Swiss company a 100% share in the Belgian railfreight operator Crossrail. The acquisition strengthens BLS Cargo’s long-term position on the north-south freight corridor through Belgium, Germany, Switzerland and Italy and its access to the Belgian ports.
Crossrail was previously owned by international logistics service provider Rhenus and operates railway services in both Belgium and Germany. BLS Cargo and Crossrail have similar lean company structures and both specialise in railfreight traffic through this corridor. (ben)
