Swiss back to normal service
In order to be able to transport additional medical supplies during the most intensive period of the pandemic, Swiss International Air Lines removed a total of 810 economy class seats from three of its B777-300ERs in spring 2020, for the first time in its history.
This allowed the airline to transport a total of more than 33,000 t of medicine or masks on 1,067 cargo-only flights, not only in the cargo hold but also in the passenger cabin.
Now, over a period of four days, the airline has reinstalled all seats in the last of the three "cargo-777s". The carrier can now offer more than 50% of its pre-crisis passenger capacities. Some 90 destinations are served from Zurich and Geneva in the current winter schedules – broadly the same number of points that were served before the present crisis, but with fewer frequencies. (ah)
