Sweden’s first suction mooring
The port of Kapellskär in Sweden has introduced innovative technology, including auto-mooring with vacuum pads and next-generation onshore power connections.
The new Finnlines vessel, the ‘Finnsirius’, now uses vacuum pads to dock, significantly reducing mooring times. This technology enhances safety, efficiency and sustainability by reducing the risk of injury and lowering fuel consumption and emissions.
Additionally, the vessel connects to onshore power using a ‘PowerReach NxG’ crane, further reducing fuel usage, noise and vibrations.
These advances are part of an EU-funded project aimed at upgrading the Baltic Sea bridge between Kapellskär and Naantali (MoS Finnlink). (pb)
