Sustainable tyres for BSR
The Berlin municipal cleaning company BSR is expanding its sustainability efforts by equipping a part of its 1,800-vehicle fleet with retreaded tyres.
Currently, 83% of BSR vehicles with tyre sizes over 17” run on retreaded tyres. According to BSR these tyres match new tyres in quality, safety and performance, whilst reducing costs and environmental impact. A study by Fraunhofer UMSICHT found that retreading saves over 60% CO₂ emissions compared to new tyre production.
BSR has introduced a tyre and casing management system with AZuR partners Michelin and RuLa-BRW, returning around 90% of tyres into the circular economy. BSR has extended their use to heavy vehicles such as spreaders and container trucks, aiming at resource conservation. (js)
