Supporting Samoa in meeting security goals

Faleolo International Airport (APW), Samoa, has selected Smiths Detection, a global specialist in threat detection and security screening technologies, to supply aviation security screening equipment.

The contract has been awarded by the New Zealand ministry of foreign affairs and trade which is supporting the Pacific Island nation by upgrading its security screening to promote tourism and safe travel, enabling direct flights between the USA and Samoa.

Amongst others, Samoa’s largest airport will receive one 100100T-2is X-ray machine for large cargo. The agreement includes staff training and support for maintenance and spare parts to optimise usage and uptime.

The installation of the systems will begin in mid-2024 and will be fully operational prior to the Commonwealth heads of government meeting in October 2024. (ah)
