Supporting air connections in remote Canada
The Covid-19 pandemic is having a significant impact on remote communities that depend on small air carriers for essential goods, services, and for access in and out of the community.
The Canadian government is working with partners, including provincial and territorial governments, Indigenous partners and the air industry to address the unique needs of these communities.
In order to cover the period of 1 July to 31 December 2020, it recently announced to contributing up to CAD 2,176,000 (EUR 1.4 million) for air services to remote communities in British Colombia and up to CAD 11,134,000 (EUR 7.2 million) for air services to remote communities in Ontario, where the provincial government is investing CAD 14.2 million (EUR 9.2 million) to operate remote airports in 2020/21, including an additional CAD 4 million (EUR 2.6 million) this year.
