Support for reopening of Doncaster airport

Plans to reopen Doncaster Sheffield airport received a boost recently when Ros Jones, the mayor of Doncaster, and her cabinet of the City of Doncaster Council (CDC) expressed unanimous support for the project. The CDC cabinet has supported a wide range of work that is underway to find a solution to reopen the site, which could unlock millions of pounds worth of investment and jobs.

Mayor Ros Jones and her cabinet members heard that the airport is a viable proposition and could be in profit within five years of reopening, leading to increased prosperity for the city and region.

The programme to reopen the airport, which closed last year, is called South Yorkshire Airport City (SYAC). It aims to return planes to the sky and to develop high-value economic activities at the site, including retail and leisure options. (cj)
