Support for ports’ rail yards and green trucks

The US department of transportation has approved two grants to support the Port of Long Beach and the Port of Los Angeles in California to accelerate their green transition.

USD 52.6 million are awarded to modernise critical on-dock rail capabilities and improve several key roadways aimed at speeding up the flow of cargo through the Port of Long Beach. This port’s Pier B rail yard accommodates containerised imports and exports flowing through the transpacific trade route.

The second grant amounts to around USD 60 million – USD 30 million for each port - to fund the purchase of zero-emission, Class 8 drayage trucks that operate at the San Pedro Bay ports complex. (ben)
