Sun power on the roof to reduce emissions
Guernsey Post in the UK has implemented solar power on five of its larger vehicles with the photovoltaics provided by Trailar, a solar power solutions company from the UK.
The solar vehicles include three 8.5 t Mitsubishi Fuso canter trucks, a 7.5 t Iveco Eurocargo unit and a 3.5 t Mercedes Sprinter. On average each vehicle will travel about 1,130 kilometres a month and move large volumes of mail to and from the airport, as well as large volumes of goods to Guernsey Post’s HQ.
The cutting-edge ultra-thin solar panels are fitted onto the roof of vehicles and connect the panels to the vehicle’s battery. The solar vehicles can save 1 t of CO2 emissions per vehicle a year. (ben)
