Sun energy to power Metrans locos

The subsidiary of the German Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) is taking the next step on its way to sustainable rail logistics. The intermodal operator has integrated a state-of-the-art photovoltaic system into its own energy mix in Bimöhlen, Schleswig-Holstein (Germany). Its rail connections in Germany are already powered 100% by green electricity.

By using the large-scale photovoltaic system, Metrans can cover around 10% of its annual requirements of more than 120 gigawatt hours. The ground-mounted solar plant was built by Enerparc. As the rail power supplier, Stadtwerke Tübingen integrates the electricity into Metrans' energy mix. The partners plan to expand their cooperation in the long term, Metrans said. (ben)
