Sturdy ships for Royal Arctic
KfW IPEX Bank is providing EUR 16.43 million to finance two more transport ships for the Royal Arctic Line. The Greenland-based shipping company already completed a loan for the construction and final financing of two similar vessels in November 2018.
Those units are currently being built at the Zamakona shipyard in Spain. The latest two ships will be built at the Nodosa shipyard (Spain).
The vessels will be deployed year-round to supply the inhabitants of remote settlements on Greenland’s coast, which do not have overland connections.
The vessels will be built to comply with the highest ice classes and will be kitted out with, inter alia, on-board cranes, reefer plugs for transporting frozen fish for export. After their delivery in late 2020 and early 2021, the new vessels will replace older units in Royal Arctic’s fleet. (kd)
