Students optimising tracking and tracing
Cargo Network is continuing its cooperation with the University of Darmstadt in Germany. Previous student projects on the digital monitoring of swapbodies are now being followed up by a bachelor thesis, which shall examine the profitability of investments as well.
For testing purposes, ten carriers have been equipped with GPS modules. The carriers informed Cargo Network’s head office about their swapbodies’ routes and timetables and intended destination. Each sender was furbished with a solar module for energy supply.
Project groups from Darmstadt University already worked on such surveys for Cargo Network last summer. The logistics company assembles the cargo of diverse customers in neutral swapbodies to avoid empty runs. (ben)
