Strong harvest drives Rouen forward
In a context marked by the coronavirus health crisis and in France by the social disruptions of last winter, 9.87 million t of cereals were exported in the 2019/2020 cereal season, a 30% increase compared to the previous year and almost 9% more than during the record campaign of 2015/2016.
This phenomenon was linked to the exceptional French harvest in summer 2019. "A “historic” campaign," said Manuel Gaborieau, head of the Haropa agro-food sector. "And if we add oilseeds and rapeseed imports, we are at 10.7 million t. In the autumn, we regularly witness a drop in activity, but not this year when we processed nearly 800,000 t per month."
Exports go to 46 destinations, now, some of which have returned after a few years of decline, for example the countries of Africa. In terms of quantity, it is still Algeria that is on top with 3.8 million t, followed by Morocco, which has risen sharply to 2.2 million t and China (900,000 t). (mw)
