Strong half year for Koper
In the first six months of 2022, the Slovenian Luka Koper saw an effective throughput of 11.7 million t, an uptick of 13% compared H1/2021. The group was able to increase its turnover by 35% compared to EUR 155.1 million (H1/2021: EUR 114.7 million).
Containers continue to dominate among the commodity groups, Luka Koper said in a press release, "despite the fact that this segment has been heavily affected by irregular ship arrivals from congested Chinese ports, which has the effect of delaying normal land cargo shipments at the ports". Posting a growth rate of 3% in H1/2022, container volumes rose to 526,500 teu handled.
The general cargoes segment recorded a significant 25% increase in throughput to more than 700,000 t. The liquid cargo terminal saw the biggest surge with a 41% increase in throughput, while the dry bulk and bulk cargoes segment grew by 20%.
In the car terminal, 367,332 cars were handled in H1/2022, an increase of 11% compared to the same period last year. A total of EUR 31.9 million was invested in new projects in H1/2022. (sh)
