Strong February in NSWA
The Northwest Seaport Alliance on the US West Coast handled more than 263,000 teu (+1%) in February 2020. Full imports increased by 10.3%, while full exports decreased 13.6%.
The upward trend is clear: the year-to-date volumes improved 5.1% to almost 552,000 teu, with full imports growing 10.6% and full exports declining 13.5%. Recent upgrades to Husky Terminal in the NSWA and the modernisation of Terminal 5 ensure that NWSA is well positioned to handle the larger vessels of the future.
In February, the Tacoma Harbour welcomed the 15,000 teu MSC Auriga, the largest container vessel to ever call the port. For domestic trade, volumes grew by 8.4% compared to February 2019. Alaska volumes saw a 7.6% increase while Hawaii volumes grew 11.7%. (cd)
