Start-up taps into freight business
Vietravel Airlines, a start-up launched in January, is considering entering the cargo market with in-house dedicated freighters, building on its current charter agreement with Indonesian carrier My Indo Airlines, covering services between Ho Chi Minh City and Bangkok.
Further to Cargofacts, the company currently operates three A321-200s within Vietnam. The airline is owned by tour operator Vietravel and intends to focus on the leisure market. To benefit from strong domestic demand and because of the lack of opportunities for foreign travel, the carrier has elected to tap into the booming cargo market as well.
Since 10 March, it has been chartering a converted B737-300 freighter from My Indo Airlines for twice weekly cargo services between the capitals of Viet Nam and Thailand. (ah)
