Spot unveils new tracking service
The cloud-based supply chain management platform Spot now offers a tracking service that consolidates different data sources in order to provide clients with more accurate, carrier-independent status information. Spotworx is based on consolidated status information.
Data either stems from shipping companies via electronic data interchange or an algorithm is used for calculations based on GPS data from ships. Once a vessel has left a port, the algorithm calculates the expected data for the next events – arrival, handling, unloading, etc. - and sends it to Spot.
All other ports and stations on a container's journey are included in the tracking data. This dispenses with the need for manual data collection, thus stepping up efficiency and cutting costs. (mw)
