Spict invests in sustainable technology
South Pacific International Container Terminal (Spict) in the Port of Lae, Papua New Guinea, has expanded its operations by acquiring two new Mitsui hybrid rubber-tired gantries (RTG).
These gantries use a combination of a smaller diesel engine and a lithium-ion battery, resulting in more efficient landside operations and faster turnaround times for trucks. Furthermore, the hybrid technology helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions at the terminal.
Spict already received two post-Panamax ship-to-shore (STS) cranes in 2022, currently the largest units of port equipment in Papua New Guinea. This expansion reflects Spict's commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and enhancing its operations. (pb)
