Spicejet exploits changing market conditions
Spicexpress, the cargo arm of the Indian airline Spicejet, has strengthened its full-freighter fleet by introducing a second B737 freighter aircraft. In the short-term, the carrier's plans are focussed on four units to serve the Indian and Southeast Asian market.
Meanwhile, the first Indian LCC to have joined Iata in March, seems to be taking advantage of the economically difficult situation of its national competitor Jet Airways which has just suspended its operations.
According to Indian media, Spicejet is giving ex Jet Airways staff "first preference" in recruitment, and has already provided jobs to 500 former Jet Airways employees, including more than 100 pilots. (ah)
